Taj Mahal Diamond

In mid December a rare and particularly noteworthy Diamond went up for auction at Christie’s. although it was part of the estate of the late Elizabeth Taylor, the heart shaped stone dates back to the early 1600′s and was given to Shah Jahan, who commissioned the Taj Mahal. The table cut diamond, now set in a pendant, was expected to sell for about $400,000, but ended up be sold for $8.8 Million.

Granted the diamond has an interesting and celebrity entwined history, but here at The Diamond Lining we take it as a signal that the price of diamond is increasing…

Elizabeth Taylor’s Jewelry – The Auction

“This is without a doubt the greatest private collection of jewellery ever assembled in one place,” -Marc Porter, President of Christie’s Americas.

Perhaps a little hyperbole here from the auction house, but we have been following the sale of Elizabeth Taylor’s Jewels, and her collection was nothing short of amazing. Seems that she was a modern day conquistador, with a taste for gold, diamonds, amethyst, and pretty much everything else that sparkles.

When the auction was over, it had grossed roughly $115 million. That is over double the previous worlds record of $50 Million from the Duchess of Windsor’s 1987 collection auction.

From reports that we have read, one of the most interesting things about the auction (aside from the prices) was the breath of the collection, and the overview of trends and tastes that it covered. Seem that if you acquire enough jewelry, and are at it for long enough, posterity will remember you well.

RecycledBride.com – A Great Site

Just in case you aren’t familiar with the site RecycledBride.com, it is a wonderful site that allows consumers to buy and sell used wedding items.

As the Worlds Largest Wedding Marketplace the site has a lot of items for sale, from brides dresses and shoes to veils and table settings. There is even a MOB section (mother of the bride), and a Grooms section. This site is a great way to help keep costs down, gather ideas for a wedding, and a wonderful way to dispose of some of your no longer needed items from a recent wedding. As the name hints at, recycling a dress, tux, or other wedding related decorations is a great way to recycle and keep otherwise perfectly good items out of the landfill that is a closet or storage unit.

The best part of the site is the great diversity of the items that have available. Rather than focusing solely on wedding dresses, they have really embraced the entire wedding for both for clothing, accessories, and decorations, which is great for soon to be brides and grooms, and their pocket books!

Check out their site, and make sure you visit their blog, which is regularly updated with great articles.
