Elizabeth Taylor’s Jewelry – The Auction

“This is without a doubt the greatest private collection of jewellery ever assembled in one place,” -Marc Porter, President of Christie’s Americas.

Perhaps a little hyperbole here from the auction house, but we have been following the sale of Elizabeth Taylor’s Jewels, and her collection was nothing short of amazing. Seems that she was a modern day conquistador, with a taste for gold, diamonds, amethyst, and pretty much everything else that sparkles.

When the auction was over, it had grossed roughly $115 million. That is over double the previous worlds record of $50 Million from the Duchess of Windsor’s 1987 collection auction.

From reports that we have read, one of the most interesting things about the auction (aside from the prices) was the breath of the collection, and the overview of trends and tastes that it covered. Seem that if you acquire enough jewelry, and are at it for long enough, posterity will remember you well.
