The first thing someone usually does when they need to money to start up a business is ask for a bank loan. That is not what Cathy Brooks did. She has a different approach to this predicament. Cathy is a former model who wanted to start her own lingerie business but needed funds somehow. She decided to pawn her designer handbag and jewelry collection from her modeling days to raise funds for her aspiring dream.
The collection includes Chanel and Hermes designer handbags, several diamond rings, a bracelet, and a necklace. She is hoping to make about $8,000 to fund Perfectpetalunderwear.com. Cathy Brooks appeared on an episode of Posh Pawn with her ex-boyfriend, James Constantinou who runs a pawn shop in Surrey where she is pawning her items.
Cathy never really used the designer handbags, at least not for a while. They were either from her modeling days or given to her as gifts. This was a very creative way to raise money being that most of the handbag collection sat in a dusty attic for 12 years.
“I’m not a very materialistic person. When I was a model I had some really nice clothing and handbags and I did sometimes use them but not a lot. I’m happier in jeans and a t-shirt,” says Cathy. She only stopped modeling when she developed Cushing’s Syndrome, a debilitating disease. It did effect her life in negative ways but she is not bitter about the disease. She believes that it molded her into the person she is today.
This just goes to show that there are lots of creative ways to raise money, especially for businesses or major purchases. You do not always have to resort to receiving a bank loan which is a huge overhead especially nowadays. If you want to start up a business and you have assets or items that you no longer need, let go of them because you never know, that decision might lead to great success.About the Author:
